Mr. Rahman is guiding the National Archives and National Library very efficiently so that, the institutions have now reached a new height of excellence. The institutions are now recognized as very important centers of South Asian Studies. Presently the National Archives and the National Library are spreading their academic and research activities in world wide range through the Internet and web-site. |

The Department of Archives & Libraries functions under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. It has its own separate administrative wing. Garden and Security divisions are also part of it. |

The Director is the head of the Organization. The present Director is M. Latifur Rahman |
| Deputy Director |
|
The Deputy Director is the second head of the organization. The present Deputy Director is Mrs. Salma Islam, M.A. in History from Dhaka University. She has also completed a certificate course on Archives Administration (Malaysia) and a Diploma Post - graduate course on Archives Study (India). |

Branch Heads work under the supervision and guidance of the Director and Deputy Director. |

As
an
archivist Salma Islam is playing an important role in instructing
students
and others on archival management in Dhaka University, National University,
Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) and some other Government Training
Institutions. She is a member of Bangladesh Itihas Samity, Bangla
Academy, Bangladesh Asiatic Society and Bangladesh Library Association
